The 2022 open girls and open boys football championships final was not this year due to the Northern Colleges experiencing flooding, continual wet weather and ground closures and were unable to hold a Gala Day after several attempts.
The winners of the Southern Colleges Gala Day were St Joseph’s Regional College, Port Macquarie (Girls) and MacKillop College, Port Macquarie (Boys). Both of these colleges were declared Lismore Diocesan champions for 2022, and they progressed to round 2 of the CSNSW-Sport State knockout.
Following Diocesan open football trials at Coffs Harbour, Wednesday, 27 April, a Lismore Diocesan girls and boys open football team was selected to attend the CCC Football Championships in Sydney. Once again, flooding, wet weather and ground closures this year hampered these trials several times.
Armidale Diocese students attended the Lismore Diocesan Trials at Coffs Harbour for the first time. They will certainly add strength to the Lismore teams at the CCC Championships this year and in the future.
Lismore managers reported that both the girls and boys open teams performed very well in Sydney this year against some very strong opposition from other dioceses’ and had solid results in pool matches. However, no Lismore players were selected for CCC open teams this year.
